The History of Teachers Billiards & Sports Cafe
In May of 1989 I opened Teachers Billiards with six 9' Playmaster pool tables and two 7' bar boxes. Looking back on the beginning I have to ask "what was I thinking". Business was extremely slow and I often took myself to the woodshed for a self inflicted beating. How could I have made such a stupid miscalculation? My first day I generated $22 in sales. My first month I did a whopping $1500. I don't need to tell you what my expenses were. Everyone knows that isn't enough.
Well, little by little things grew and about two and a half years later, I quit my regular job and went full time. Don't glance over the two and half years part too lightly. That is 912 days of which 75% of it was filled with fear, uncertainty and doubt. But, because I didn't have any other choice, I perservered and here we are today.
Little did I know that my landlord was watching me. He must have liked what he saw because he offered to finance me if I wanted to expand. Well, that was the beginning of Teachers Billiards & Sports Cafe. Now, years later we have 18 bar boxes, 4 Gold Crown III's, a full service bar and grille, 20 TV's, two high definition flat screen plasma's and a high definition big screen.
League play is the foundation of our business. We offer it five nights per week and we hold two 9ball tournaments per week. Teachers is known for its high level of play. Over the years our players have done very well in national events. We have developed 2 BCA Junior National Champions as well as several other top 10 finishers. We have had a BCA Singles champion, we've had a National Championship in the BCA Scotch Doubles, we've had two National Championship teams at the BCA National tournament in Las Vegas and we've had numerous top 20 finishes.
Aside from pool we supplement the business with sports bar activities, our famous Karaoke contest, and fund raising events. You would expect a billiard room to have high quality players, but our Karaoke talent is unbelieveable. You must check out the talent on any given Tuesday or Saturday night.
Finally, we can't go until we talk about our food. We are known for our "love filled" burgers as coined by good customer Brad Rehm. We challenge anyone to find a better homemade burger or chicken sandwich than ours. Appetizers range from wings to fries to toasted ravioli to cheese sticks to chicken strips. Of course, there is much more.
How about an evening at Teachers to take advantage of all we have to offer. Thanks for visiting our site and I look forward to meeting you soon.
